Who We Are
Meet Our Founder: Mr. Terefe T. Godi (Mr. Kanance)
At the heart of Kanance Coffee and Spice is our founder, Mr. Terefe T. Godi, a young and passionate entrepreneur committed to promoting Ethiopia’s rich agricultural heritage. Born and raised among the Bench (Benisho) people in the Bench Zone of Southwest Ethiopia, Mr. Terefe understands the challenges faced by local farmers and communities. This region is known for its rich, diverse, and massive agricultural potential, yet its indigenous people have been marginalized and have not received fair economic benefits from their resources.
As a representative of one of the indigenous peoples from the southwestern peripheral areas of Ethiopia, Mr. Terefe is dedicated to working for all economically marginalized indigenous groups, including the Suri (Surma), Dizi (Maji), Majang, and Sheko tribes, in addition to his own Bench community. He envisions empowering these communities to benefit from their natural resources, such as gold and other mining potentials, while fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
After completing his university education, Mr. Terefe joined a smallholder farmers’ cooperative union as an export manager. His journey led him to establish Shochoch Trading Plc, which exports over USD 3 million annually. This experience has deepened his commitment to connecting Ethiopian farmers with international markets. In 2019, he founded Kanance Coffee and Spice to focus on EUDR compliant smallholder farmers’ coffee, large plantations, specialty coffee, and a variety of other agricultural products, including spices and herbs, grains, honey, and fruits.
